UFO BOOK & POSTER

PUBLICATION & POSTER

FALL 2018

What Was Asked:

A publication based on the Condon Report, also known as the Colorado Project: A Study of Unidentified Flying Objects. The goal of the project was to create a concept that drove the design of the book through the use of styles in InDesign.

The Outcome:

After hours and hours staring at my screen I finally compiled and stylized all the information of this book (the tables were the worst!). The design was made to have a systematic research aesthetic. I wanted the design to be clean and clear when talking about the research findings. Featured with the book is a poster that shows the charts in the book with more detail.

Featured with the book is this poster where it displays the charts that are scattered throughout. I played with layering the charts on the poster because they are treated the same way throughout the book. At the end of the page you can take a closer look at the poster.

I wanted the captions to be easily visible but not overlay on the full bleed page of the image. To tackle this problem, I took the idea of the rectangle from the section starts and hung the rectangle connecting to the gutter on the opposite page of the photo with the caption inside.

Throughout the book, I wanted all of the tables to be featured on the top of the margin. This would ensure that all of the tables are in the same location and are easy to find. I made my top margin taller so that I can easily insert a range of table sizes.
